On September 7, 2023, the University of Alberta hosted the Quantum Industry Mixer in downtown Edmonton. Together with Edmonton Unlimited and Alberta CREATE Centre, we gathered more than 80 attendees from both academics and industries.
Exciting Learning and Discussion Opportunities
Andre McDonald from the University of Alberta’s VPRI office gave the opening speech to the attendees, followed by Catherine Warren‘s welcome speech. We then heard the presentation from Lindsay LeBlanc about quantum technologies and their applications. The first part was closed with many pitches from both industry professionals and academic researchers.
There were 25 industry professionals, 32 academics, 12 members of the tech community, and 10 drop-ins. We received positive feedback: “It was fantastic”, “Best networking event”, and more!
Special Thanks to the Minister of Technology and Innovation
During the second half of the event, the Minister of Technology and Innovation from the Government of Alberta gave a speech about the advancement of technology in the province. As the MC of the night, Darren Fast from the University of Alberta’s VPRI office then introduced case study participants including Clear Flow. We then heard the discussion among funders: Mitacs, NSERC, NRC, and Alberta Innovates.
The University of Alberta and all attendees would like to thank the Minister of Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nate Glubish for attending and providing support and encouraging words to our growing industry, as we all look to strengthen and further position Alberta as a leader in quantum sciences and engineering.
